One verifiable account of a failed prophecy can be found in the 1920 book published by the watchtower society named 'millions now living will never die', this was also the title of convention talks of the same name given by Judge Rutherford, the society president at the time.

The statement was meant quite literally, that millions of people alive at that time in 1920 would never die, as they would be saved at armageddon, and therefore live forever on the earth. The basis for this belief was on Jesus words, 'this generation will by no means pass away...' in Matthew 24:34 which they applied to any who had 'seen' Jesus invisible presence (or parousia in greek) in 1914 when they believed he established his kingdom in the heavens.

Of course time has run out for this prediction, as millions who were alive at that time and who qualify for everlasting life no longer remain. This prediction can also be found in the watctower publication 'You can live forever in paradise on Earth' on page 154 you will find the following assurance. "some of the generation living in 1914 will see the end of the system of things and survive it"

When it became apparent this prediction was not going to come true, the watchtower society wrote a series of articles redefining the term 'generation', however semantic arguments do not alter the fact that they clearly predicted the end would come before those alive in 1914 had all passed away. Therefore this is an example of a failed prediction/prophecy that was subsequently changed by the WTS leaders.
