As mentioned in other answers yes wands are used to channel energy, crystals are also used, or even crystal wands for that matter, although a wand is not mandatory to channel energy. The ritual dagger or Athame' can also fulfill this purpose.

Broomsticks, well the short answer is no, wiccans don't ride broomsticks in the sense of Harry Potter, but they do ride them like a hobby horse for some rites. Though in actuality the broom is a device used to conceal the nature of what is really a phallic staff, used in pagan fertility rites.

The lore that was passed to me is that the phallic staff was concealed in the beesom broom head to avoid christian persecution, thus allowing wytches to carry the staff openly but concealed in an everyday object. I daresay anyone witnessing a fertility rite in those times would indeed have seen wytches riding broomsticks. Bear in mind most traditional lore has been passed on by word of mouth, and it is hard to know for certain how accurate this is, but this explanation certainly makes sense to me.
