What about Baha'is, my dear Jewgnost?
by Halskiisaklink on March 9th, 2007
nevets, the Hinduism you are descibing is modern Hinduism. Hinduism did not have one supreme god until well into the christian era. the earliest vedic literature was very much like the Norse beliefs.

the Bahais only turned up in Persia in the 19th c, as a movement out of Islam. It has aspects of the ancient Zoroastrian beliefs in itand teaches that Baha'ullah, their prophet is the fulfilment of all religions, including Islam. For this, it was declared heretical by Islam and was severely persecuted, still is.

yes, it may be, but not of classical Hinduism, as taught in the Vedas, Upanishads and other texts.

It is NOT a movement out of Islam. Ask any self-respecting Baha'i that (and they will verbally decapitate you). And it has not been prosecuted by Islam as a whole, but by certain (Arab and otherwise) Islamic leaders. All of the Muslims I've met have voiced no dismay over Baha'is. But you feel confident enough to make gross religious generalisations whenever it suits you.
by Halskiisaklink on March 9th, 2007
there you go, TP, making gross generalisations yourself."Baha'i was founded in Iran in the mid-nineteenth century by Mirza Husayn Ali (1817-1892). Better known as Baha'ullah, he believed that he was the prophet foretold by the Bab, a religious leader who was a direct descendent of the prophet Muhammad. my comment section does not seem to be working. I'll put up a question.

However, that doesn't make the Baha'i Faith an 'offshoot' of Islam. It's as related to Islam as it is to every other Abrahamic faith.
by Halskiisaklink on March 9th, 2007
I'm sure those Baha'i friends of yours offered to remove certain vital organs for suggesting such a thing. And you may be onto something with Christians being Jewish, Jesus being a Jew and all... ;) It follows Singwell's logic.
by Halskiisaklink on March 9th, 2007
Perhaps, but I'm having beef (swine, it would appear) with Singwell on other questions and discussions, so you'll excuse my vulgarity.
by Halskiisaklink on March 9th, 2007
now, nevets, don't you start patronising me...I do know a lot about religious faiths of the world. It is part of my degree and I live in very multicultural areas. I said that Bahaism is an offshoot of Islam. It is...what religion was its founder before he had his revelation? Muslim. Islamic ideas are found within Bahaism, but it is syncretic, and has many aspects of Zoroastrianism in it as well. It is this syncretism that has marked it out as different from movements within Islam and also the religions of the dhimmis. Over and out on Bahaism here. this WAS a discussion on Hinduism, upon which I have lectured at tertiary level. Over and out.

Jesus was a Jew! That means Christianity is a (rather poor) offshoot of Judaism! Are you okay with that?
by Halskiisaklink on March 9th, 2007
I did not say that Bahaism was a POOR offshoot of Islam, but it is an offshoot, albeit it a syncretistic one. And yes, Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism Of course it is. No one has ever denied it. Over and out.
...and nevets, apology accepted. I could never stay mad at you....:-)

You are misinterpreting Hinduism. It ahs amny gods, and the main ones are Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu. In Japan, 99.54% of us are not Christian. Amaterasu the sun goddess is the ruler of the universe.
