Why do Christians feel the need to proseltyze to Atheists?

    I can answer this one!

    If:
    a) You believe someone is doomed to an eternity of suffering and hell because they don't know the true path; and b) You are a good person;

    Then:
    c) You will attempt to teach them the correct path.

    I also find that in some unfortunate cases it is just a matter of saying that "I am right and you are wrong". Think of it as theological masturbation. They get-off on talking *at you* (not with you) about their interpretations of religion. (Did I say "their interpretation of religion"? I meant "Truth"!)


    There are ways and means.

    • I do not think you can use the phrase "theological masturbation" without opening yourself to all kinds of criticism! ; )
      Actually, I've never understood the use of "masturbation" in the sense of "Insufficient," as in the famous phrase "Mental masturbation."
      Masturbation is not a substitute for sex; it's just one form of sexual activity.
      My point: I suppose we can't fault a Christian for trying to "rescue" some non-believer, but honestly, do you really believe that that's Christianity's purpose?? Does the loving God of the New Testament sit up there in Heaven and condemn the people? No thinking person would do that, so why would a God?
