Ken (fist-PO-law) is a term that was used when chinese arts influanced Okinawan Tode which came to be known as Tode Kenpo, From Tode came the varrious ryu such as shuri ryu and nahate. As it went from Okinawa into mainland Japan it was called Shorinji ryu which is the Japanese translation for Shaolin. Funikoshi changed the wording to Karate or empty hand. It moved from Japan to Hawaii and was changed into the western form most commonly seen today, There are basicall two versions Chinese Kenpo and Japanese Kenpo whith American Kenpo being the most seen, developed by Ed Parker.
