What is a shot to nothing?

    Willie's answer is not quite correct. A shot to nothing is a shot by where the striker attempts to pot a ball, knowing that the chances that he will not leave a pot on are very high and hence "shot to nothing". However, the white ball does not necessarily have to end up in the baulk area behind the colours, it can be anywhere on the table from where a pot is highly unlikely. It just happens that generally a shot to nothing does end up in the baulk area, as obviously there are more balls here to hide behind. However you can easily play a shot to nothing at the other end of the table.

    Just as small correction but I thought it was necessary.
