The General makes more then the Colonel. A Colonel is classified as an 0-6. The General is classified as an 0-10. The pay grade is higher for the General.

    The grades for officers are:

    0-1 Second Lieutenant
    0-2 First Lieutenant
    0-3 Captain
    0-4 Major
    0-5 Lieutenant Colonel
    0-6 Colonel
    0-7 Briagadier General
    0-8 Major General
    0-9 Lieutenant General
    0-10 General

These ranks are for the Air Force, Army and Marines. The navy is a little different.

    • Depends on time in service and duty station--an o-6 can make as much as an 0-8

    • remoteman111, the question was about O-6 vs. O-10, not O-8. So, your critism is unfounded.

    • Sea pay, hazard pay, BAQ, Time in service, COLA... remoteman IS correct. There are other variables that need to be considered. Generally the O-10 will earn more, but not always. Therefore, it depends.

    • Sorry Stryder et al, I used to teach military pay to service members dependents & now calculate military pay for mortgage loans and Jerv, RJTRIES and remoteman111 are correct.

    • Daley - Huh? Why are you telling me what I already know? I think I spent enough time in the service to have at least a basic understanding of the pay scale.

    • Jerv - If you will look back at my comment, it was directed to Stryder and others who might agree with him. I was supporting and agreeing with your answer and comments. I saw no point in providing an answer myself when you, RJTRIES and remoteman111 had already provided accurate information. I was merely lending another voice of credibility in support of what you had already stated. What is there to be defensive about? I was agreeing with you and supporting your position.

    • /me misinterpreted placement of comma.
I thought you were implying that I was disagreeing with the other two.
      My bad.

    • No worries :o) I have done the same thing more than once myself :o) Maybe I could have worded it better, too. I am the queen of run on sentences.

    • As am I, what with comma, parenthesis (which I love) and the more-than-occasional semicolon; you can't have a good run-on sentences without a semi-colon.
