There are seven sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church:

    1) Baptism
    2) Communion
    3) Confirmation
    4) Confession
    5) Extreme Unction (Last Rites)
    6) Marriage
    7) Holy Orders

Of these, all Catholics are expected to take part in the first five. Baptism is usually performed on infants, the first Communion is given around the age of seven, a person is confirmed usually around 15 years. One's first confession is usually shortly after confirmation. Like Communion, confession is supposed to be partook of at least once every year. Extreme Unction, although it may be administered at any time, is usually given to people who are ill.

With the obvious exception of clergy and nuns, all Catholics are encouraged to be married.

Holy Orders is the sacrament that initiates a man into the clergy. Unlike all other sacraments, it is only performed on men. It is in three degrees: bishops, priests, and deacons.

Response to edit: I'm not sure how it works in other parishes, but in mine, I took first communion when I was in first grade. I couldn't confess until after my confirmation.

    • It goes against Catholic teachings to recieve communion first, your pastor should have known better.

    • Infants shoul'nt be baptize. Baptism has more meaning than "holly water" being poured on a childs forehead.
