How would you treat a cold? how long do you stay home?

    Just let it run its course. It's caused by a variety of viruses, but is generally self limiting. Antibiotics are useless, since they aren't anti-viral, and may predispose you to other infections.

    Replace fluids, to prevent dehydration. Generally people find hot drinks are better since the steam helps to humidify the nasal cavity when you breath it in and it may also sooth the throat.


    Decongestants may help to help breathing if you have a blocked nose, however you should avoid these if you have high blood pressure as they can exacerbate this.
