Not all women are, but I'm one of the ones that is... so I'll offer my expert opinion.
It has nothing to do with money. At least, not with me. I've been dirt poor my whole life, and money just doesn't mean much to someone who's never had it.
I was attracted to Jason at first - because he had interests. Not just hobbies, but things that he felt so powerfully about that it seemed they were part of his soul. And when he (for example) has his hands on a guitar, it's as if it were an extension of his body that he had lost, and with which he was rejoined. Most of the boys closer to my age did not feel passionately about anything, except maybe World of Warcraft. And, IMO, sole obsession over the product of someone else's talents is childish and stupid.
I liked him further when I learned he was fond of reading, and had as many non-fiction books in his library as I did. Being able to sit for hours and discuss things we have read about Bronze age weaponry, or the Knights Templar, or the mysteries surrounding the Nazca plain... it was very refreshing.
He took care of his mother for years, through her insanity and medical conditions. He works hard and takes pride in his work. He is always willing to sit down and learn - he doesn't have the attitude typical of other people I know: "I'm better than you, I know more than you, revel in my awesomeness"
I guess, in short, I was attracted to him because he was, indeed, a grownup.
