I have died my hair since I was 16 and I'm now 54, so I know a little bit about hair dye. I'm letting the gray come in naturally and trying to get rid of my existing hair dye. I used dish washing detergent to wash out the hair dye, which left me with this darken, dead color on the tips of my hair. I was just about to remove all the hair color and start over, when I read the suggestion for the Vitamin C mixed in to your shampoo. I took (6) 500 mg of Vitamin C tablets and crushed them to a powder, adding the powder to a quarter size of shampoo. I mixed the two together until it made a paste. I applied the mixture to my hair and let it sit for 60 minutes. When I washed the paste away, my hair looked FABULOUS!! That flat color on the ends was gone and my hair is beautiful. I can't believe this cure all hasn't been made public before. Thanks for the information!!
I have naturally blonde hair, and have turned it darker colors in the past.

You're reading Is it true that vinegar can remove hair color from hair? If not, then what home based products can remove hair dye?

Thanks to all of you who wrote about crushing Vitamin C and mixing it with shampoo, that worked great without making my hair dry. I had my hair colored and it was bright red (was supposed to just have auburn highlights). Anyway, I washed it 30 times with Head and Shoulders and Pert, with no real change. I then found this site and crushed 4 (500mg) Vitamin C tabs with about a teaspoon of Pert, lathered it into my hair and left it on for 45 minutes. It came out great. Thanks to ALL who suggested this. Now I won't look like Lucille Ball for Thanksgiving.

Thank you sooo much for posting this! I dyed my red hair with blond highlights (done professionally) light auburn and it was horrible!! I crushed 3-1000 mg vitamin C tablets and mixed with Dawn dishwashing soap. Wet my hair with the hotest water I could take, lathered it into my hair and left the mixture on for 1 hour. I washed and treated my hair with good conditioner. I could not believe my eyes when I blow dried my air! It is a beautiful soft redish blond! Thank you again!!! Happy red head!!:)
