This answer represents a very clear perspective on human nature. It is useless to assume some Utopian society where guns are obsolete, because THAT DOESN'T EXIST! People who talk down on firearm rights are simply self-righteous pseudo intellectuals who build all of there theories off of other theories and can't even remember what theory got them started. If you base all your arguments in reality, the right to bear arms is a simple necessity in order for society and government to work.

I'd like to be like the British and not have to worry about crack heads on the street running around with guns. But since America can't seem to do anything about illegal guns, we should all have the right to them.

Britain has crack heads with guns too.
by antiyoupunk on November 7th, 2008
crackheads with guns are the worst kind of crackheads!

I've always been bothered by crackheads in my garage more than crackheads with guns.
by antiyoupunk on November 7th, 2008
Nickolas, that's what anti-gun people never think about. If the criminals know for certain we have no guns in our homes, they can do whatever they want.

I'm very much opposed to automatic or semi-automatics in the hands of the public. That being said, keep all the rifles and shotguns you want. As for pistols/revolvers I'm of a mixed mind. Easily concealed is great for criminals and civilians alike.
by ConservativelyLiberal on November 8th, 2008
I would not have a problem with the banning of fully automatic firearms in the private sector.

What about semi?
by ConservativelyLiberal on November 9th, 2008
there have only been TWO people killed in the last 40 years by legally owned automatic weapons. Both of those were cops that killed a wife or ex-girlfriend. COPS!
civilian owned machine guns are the safest guns in the country.

That isn't true sprky, I can name quite a few off the top of my head but that's not important. How many legal assault weapons were stolen from some safe gun owner and ended up in the hands of criminals killing folks? Did you realize the number one way criminals end up with guns, is that criminals steal them from law abiding gun owners? The fact is that your owning a gun, potentially puts another gun on the street. And that is the reality we have to come to face, and deal with.

..by legally owned automatic weapons..
that does not include stolen.
that does not include use by non-legal-owners.
did you know that many if not most cops killed by guns are killed with their OWN guns? what to do..., disarm cops to keep them safe!?
by sprky777 on December 2nd, 2009
And you have some of proof your statistics, I'm sure.

In 1995 there were over 240,000 machine guns registered with the BATF. (Zawitz, Marianne,Bureau of Justice Statistics, Guns Used in Crime [PDF].) About half are owned by civilians and the other half by police departments and other governmental agencies (Gary Kleck, Targeting Guns: Firearms and Their Control, Walter de Gruyter, Inc., New York, 1997.)
Since 1934, there appear to have been at least two homicides committed with legally owned automatic weapons. One was a murder committed by a law enforcement officer (as opposed to a civilian). ...
