I used to be a girl, I'm a woman now, and I always say what I mean and mean what I say.
However, some younger (and not so young) women can buy into the whole lifestyle of backstabbing, being falsely nice, overly critical, and who seem to enjoy playing mind games. It's not uncommon for a group of girls to say "Oh, I love your hair!" to a girl who is walking past, and then immediately tear her to shreds once she is out of sight.
I don't know why this happens, but rest assured, we aren't all like that.
