Should violent criminals (murderers, rapists, armed robbers, etc.) be housed separate from less violent ones (petty thieves, drug possessors, tax evictors, etc.)?

YES very much so!! Many violent criminals should be executed. Drug offenses such as simple marijuana possession should be eliminated.
