It was obviously a gambit by Mr. Ford the Elder (as loosely translated from the Praxibetel) to clean up a few loose ends on Betelgeuse Seven. He took after his son in that regard - always leaving loose ends lying about. He moved to Betelgeuse Five, which was far enough away from Betelgeuse Seven to escape the odours emanating from under the collapsed hrung and where he went on to father and uncle young Ford. A hrung is a large, friendly object under which one can hide several very large groups of loose ends. The loose ends, unfortunately, were not entirely happy with the situation. Neither was the hrung, although no one thought to seek either's opinion on the subject at the time.
