They would survive for a while, but not for long. This diet is very high in sugar, so obesity, diabetes and heart failure would start to become real problems in less than a year. It is also completely lacking in vitamins, so conditions like scurvy, which can be fatal, would start to have a real impact in as little as six months.

I would not think someone could survive on this diet for longer than nine months.

    •   A high-sugar diet won't lead to diabetes in someone who doesn't already have a latent proclivity toward it.  Type 1 is caused by an autoimmune disorder, completely unrelated to diet, and type 2 is based on a genetic trait.  Interestingly, the genetic trait that forms the basis of type 2 diabetes is beneficial in times of famine and hardship.  A person with this trait has greater survivability in times when food is scarce and hard physical work is required to survive.  This trait allows one to make much more efficient use of limited nourishment.  But when food is plentiful (especially food that is high in carbohydrates) and life is easy, this same trait tends to manifest as type 2 diabetes, along with a tendency toward obesity.
