When did needing to have a driving permit become a law in the UK?

    Holding a driving license became law in the UK in 1903. However it wasn't until 1935 that driving competency tests were introduced. The first tests, introduced in March 1935 were voluntary, however by June of 1935 they had become compulsory in order to reduce the high number of road accidents.
