The decline of the teaching of languages in American schools is one reason we do not "see" the sense in other languages and pronunciation. It is also the reason we have in part such a low regard for other citizeens of the world. Given the global focus on everything a second and third language, which is required in the rest of the world, should be required here.

You're reading How do you pronounce Euler? I was taught you-ler at school and the oil-er at university. Just curious :)

Thank you, I know now (after uni) that it's Oil-er but was always confused why my maths teachers got it wrong. I never worked it out for myself, perhaps because I am hopeless at languages.
