Getting to Mercury isn't all that difficult. The closeness of the Sun makes temperature regulation of the electronics problematical. Beyond that there is little interest in Mercury because the extreme temperatures preclude the presence of water and therefore no hope of finding signs of life.

    • Not to mention that Mercury does not really appear to be all that different from the Moon.

    • Actually Mercury is quite interesting, that's why NASA launched
MESSENGER (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and
Ranging) in 2004. among its jobs is verification of observations from
the 90s of possible water ice at the poles.
