I think it's good to know who is/was willing to serve their country and not just have their country serve them.

    • That's not what I meant. Prior to 2008, hardly anyone used the WORD vet for anything other than the person/place you take your pets to get a shot. Now that "vet" has become a buzz word this year, everybody and his father is (over)using it. It's said so OFTEN, I cringe each time I hear it.

    • You never heard the word "vet" growing up around the veterans of three wars??? I was born in 1960 and the term "Vietnam vets" was common as dirt.

    • Yes...I was a vet. But...WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH MY QUESTION?! (Sorry...lost it there...)

    • I've heard it all my life and don't think I'm hearing any more now than before. My pet word peeve (and not being a vet, please forgive me) is hero being automatically given to any soldier who serves in a war zone. Not that I think less of the soldiers, but even the soldiers know that some are heroes and some are not.
