Help answer this question below.

Negative thoughts just pop up in my head without warning. How do I avoid thinking them in the first place?

    I agree with all of the answers, but I must add this:
    Some people who struggle with clinical or cronic negative thinking might also be suffering with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In the instance of OCD, therapy dealing with cognitive distortion and medication to slow the mind down has been effective in treating OCD. There is no "one size fits all" when dealing with some mental disorders. It is the Symptom of a mental disorder that is most often addressed in treatment, rather than the disorder, itself.

    • OCD is a possibility, but only a licensed clinical psychologist or psychiatrist can make such a diagnosis.
