Your question, while valid, is based upon a factual malapropism. The Police Action in Iraq has actually incurred roughly the same number of combat casualties as the Spanish-American War and the War of 1812 - between 1500 and 2000 individuals, at minimum.

Some independent sources have estimated double these numbers, but it's impossible to know for certain, and I wouldn't dare guess without better access to facts.

    • They should ask how many soldiers die annually regardless of combat...

    • US troops are known to be pretty incompetent and unprofessional at large. About 15% friendly fire casualties in wartime.

    • War is indeed messy. Friendly fire is unavoidable. This is not unique to Iraq or to other countries troops. Without supporting evidence, I reject your characterization of the effectiveness of our troops. Now, if you had said our elected leaders are incompetent and unprofessional, I would agree. The politicians, ever aware of public opinion, have placed restraints upon our soldiers that will only allow them to fight in self-defense. That is why Iraqi soldiers accompany our troops. They follow no such guidelines. They shoot when they feel the need. Follow suspects into homes. Kick down doors. Our guys use them as the point men until our rules allow us to enter the fray. That being said, I still want the troops home ASAP! Let Iraq sort out its own sectarian issues.
