In Canadian football, the field is 11 1/2 yards wider and 10 yards longer. The endzones are also 20 yards long. You have 12 men per side instead of 11. The goalposts are also at the front of the endzone, rather than the back

The key differences in play are:

Canadian football has only 3 downs to get 10 yards, compare to American 4 down.

A ball kicked through the endzone scores one point and gives the opposing team the ball at the 35 yard line.

The kicking team does not have to wait for the opponent to touch the ball to attempt to recover it.

A ball may be kicked at any time to attempt a field goal.

A missed field goal is considered a live ball.

There's a few other differences, but these are the main ones.

    • Thanks, that's a clear explanation for someone who doesn't know much about either game (to me 'football' means Gaelic football).
