No. Like most of the dogma, holidays and core beliefs of the Christians, this symbol was "borrowed" from previous religions. The stones at Callanish in Lewis were built in a perfect cross, millennia before Jesus is supposed to have lived.

    • Just because the cross was an icon long before Jesus does NOT negate the fact that witnesses at the time recorded the event. Whether that recording was done personally or via a scribe who recorded their reminiscences is immaterial. The fact of the Resurrection is actually far more significant anyway. And yes, there are Roman documents from the time in the Vatican today, of the inquiry into the events at the tomb. Revisionists aside, the historical evidence corroborates the traditional understanding of those events.
