Yes, several times I've been chosen for random body and luggage searches. Try telling the TSA agent the reason you're setting off the scanner is that you're wearing bra with metal hooks that clasp in the front...and then having to show her.

But that's nothing compared to the TSA agent who opened my nail care kit and declared that my nail clippers -- you know, that ferocious metal contraption capable of taking off the whole tip of a nail -- was prohibited onboard. Astonished, I mused out loud that she was going to take my nail clippers but I could keep the 4-inch metal pointed-tip nail file tucked beside it. She just gave me this dear in the headlights look. Because the file wasn't "on the list," I walked right on board with it.

If we're going to humiliate people and sacrifice personal dignity in the name of security, it shoudl at least be effective, I think.

    • The bra thing happened to me in the Frankfurt airport in 1994-I had to take it off and hand it over to the nice man with the machine gun who then cut my bra open, looked around, found no contraband and handed it back to me. Nice.

    • I've had my strapless sandals searched, and I've learned to never carry a backpack ~ it targets you for the random searches everytime!

    • I've had a TSA agent, while inspecting my laptop, tell his co-worker he was going to take it. Not a laughing tone - a serious tone. Took all of my inner will not to clock him. I have zero respect for those people after personally witnessing several cases of misconduct.

    • Clocking them is a satisfying thought but good thing you didn't! You would probably have been declared a terrorist and we'd have read about your arrest.

    • Yep. I would've been declared a terrorist for trying to keep my stuff from being stolen from a guy with a badge and an IQ of less than 30. It all ran through my head, trust me...
