What would a black hole look like from behind?

    The same as it looks from the "front." I would rather say that "front" and "back" are not applicable to a black hole. A black hole probably appears as a solid black circle from any direction. I think that blaylock makes the same point.

    Edit, for those of you who want clarification: My understanding of cosmology leads me to believe that a black hole looks the same from any direction you might look at it. I have never seen a black hole, but the word on the street is that it looks like a black disc. So, once you define what "back" is, it would look like a black disc if you were to look at it from the back.

    • This is true from from any place w/in normal space/time, but might be asking what look like from below event horizon.

    • There might be some observable effects from a rotating black hole (and I think it's the case that nearly all black holes do rotate). If that's the case, then it wouldn't look the same from every direction.
