How many coats of paint will it take to turn a matte white wall a dark color?

    It depends on several factors. First what color are you going to paint the wall? If you want a dark red for instance; the best thing to do is prime it first with a dark grey. Red hides grey better than white and will only take two coats after that. If you are painting the walls dark green, I would suggest to prime it with a primer tinted TOWARD the color you want to finish it with.
