You're reading Does my doctor have to give me my medical records if I ask for them? Do they belong to him or to me. Can he charge me for them. Seems I have already paid for them.( a great deal was paid to him for his services)
Comments
First of all, the records do not belong to the patient, unless the patient brought in the folder, paper, and toner for each and every visit. Also, by law the record has to be kept for seven years in case a subpoena for records should arise. As far as the fees that are incurred for the record, who is going to pay for the employee standing there to make copies for a patient when it's clearly not part of her job description. I am so sick of hearing everyone bitch about healthcare costs and placing the blame on the Doctor. Why doesn't everyone look up what they are being charged for insurance premiums and what they are actually paying the Doctor. I don't see anyone complaining about dental fees such as $2800 for a crown but a physician only gets paid $280 for surgery that saved someone's life. How about the attorney fees or the mechanics? Why don't you look up to see what they profit, or better yet, how about the CEO of your medical insurance? This is the kind of attitude that makes me wonder why the Doctors' are still loyal to taking care of patients.
