How serious a problem do you think global warming is?

    Not being a specialist in environmental science I can't say that we are having or approaching a climate crisis at all. With the biased and limited nature of the research carried out and our lack of knowledge about the cycles of change the Earth goes through over time, it's hard to conclude anything. I doubt there will be conclusive proof of climate change in my lifetime.

    However, we cannot just wait, continue producing greenhouse gases, tons of waste and using up the planet's resources, and see what happens. The actions of governments affect future generations, and those generations are the ones who are likely to suffer the effects of global warming, due to our activities and lack of action.

    Global warming can not be thought of as an individual issue or responsibility. I do my bit recycling but I know that it doesn't really matter if I did; I catch the bus into the city everyday, but the fact that my car isn't in the rush hour traffic, circling around to find a parking space probably means that someone else is. There needs to be widespread political action to educate people about the possible consequences of their consumer actions (not just in the context of global warming, what about poor factory conditions people making clothes). There needs to be a move from a focus on rights (I have a right to eat gala melons all year) to one of repsonsibilities (the miles our food travels may be damaging the planet for future generations) and this change needs to be recognised by politicians and world leaders if it is to make any difference.
