Yes. People who do not have health insurance have to pay more for health care than insurance compaines pay for people who have insurance. This is not fair, because if people could afford higher hospital bills they would be able to afford insurance to start with.

    • this unfairness is actually a product of congress. see, if hospitals give you health care and they can't recover fees from you, then they are allowed to write off that unrecovered fee as a charitable donation. no place else can individuals or corporations write off unrecovered expenses. so, hospitals are encouraged to pad the amounts unrecovered, so, they charge joe blo $30,000 for something they'd charge an insurance giant only $10k for. that way, they won't have a taxable income even though they give away tens of billions in dividends to stockholders. its called corruption!!!

    • Why don't we hear this debated in Congress or on the evening news?

    • too complex an issue to fit in a 10 second sound bite or a 5 line executive summary, maybe???

    • Yes, the fallback argument of the conspiracy theorist: make up whatever you want, then tell anyone who disagrees to prove a negative. Why not start by supporting your claim.

So what evidence do you have that would support the claim that hospitals overcharge patients simply to increase their tax right-off? Can you provide any evidence that would show that any hospital charges non-contracted insurance carriers less than an uninsured patient?

    • yes, 10,000 cases studied by congress. go back in your cave. that's just the argument of the right-wing nut jobs who are too stupid to read the evidence that doesn't support what they're TOLD from fox news.

    • I see you still have not provided any evdience to support your agenda. So who is the "nut job"?

    • i provided the reference for people with 2 brain cells to look it up. i already answered your question about who is the nut job in the statement above, if you had 2 brain cells with which to think for yourself. :)

    • Yes, avoid the issue by making an ad hominem attack, and an illogical one at that. You should write a paper and submit it to a scholarly journal. And instead of citing any authority, you should just right in the footnotes: “if you have two brain cells you could look this up.” I am sure you will be published with such a logical argument!

    • if you ask 20 faculty at harvard or mit, they'll state that it's not illogical. this is a silly discussion board, not a scholarly journal, and i have more important things to do with my life than write scholarly papers proposed by you with silly statements that apply here to your silliness but would never be applicable in other settings.

    • You are right this is not as scholarly journal, so why bother making logical arguments. Some would argue that intelligent, logical, discourse is important in general. You obviously don’t adopt that view.

I, however, do feel that intelligent discourse is important. Even though AB is not a scholarly journal, I participate to share knowledge and ideas. Since you don’t see the point in intelligent, logical, discussion, I am just going to let you have the last word (I am sure that will make you feel “right”) and move on to have an intelligent discussion with those who are interested. Good day!
