Directed by Robert Wise who later directed "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and "The Andromeda Strain", two more good SF movies (ST:TMP was finally released on DVD as a "director's cut" and really was much better a movie).

The name of the alien "Klaatu" was taken by a rock band in Canada. Their first album "3:47 EST" was named after the time that the saucer lands in the movie. Their music was so similar to that of the recently split Beatles, that many people thought that "The Beatles" had reunited and released this album under an assumed name.
