Help answer this question below.

Where does the Marine Corps "Force Recon"; fit in with the Navies "SEALS", and Armies "Green Berets"?? Meaner or wimpier?

    This Daley has a new bundle of joy

    Force Recon, for all intents and purposes, has now, essentially, been reorganized and reallocated. The Marine Corps now has a new contribution to the SOF (Special Operations Forces) called MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command).

    Force Recon Marines now make up the Direct Action and Surveillance and Reconnaissance (DASR). They are still around, they just have a different name.

    Green Berets are known for land drop (air insertion) activities. SEALS are known for maritime operations and insertions. The Marine DASR Company of MARSCOC is best suited working in the littoral regions (USMC defines that as anywhere the MEU can reach and is usually from the coast up to 600 miles inland).

    On a more general note, ALL Marines, not just the Recon trained Marines, go through a broader scope of training and their basic training is longer than the other branches of service. Also, their guidelines for physical fitness are stricter than the other branches...so if that ties in with how you would define "mean" or "wimpy", I would say Marines are tougher.

    • Wow...that IS old. Where you at Tun Tavern? ;o) The names and the structure may be different, but it is mostly still the same. There are no new ideas under the sun and I think that is probably true within the military as well :o)
