How can someone justifiably, downrate a legitimate answer to a question that starts with, "What do you think..."?

Wow, umm... troll? lol. I do not like it when people downrate answers based on opinion. It's all about answer quality mainly.

I'm fairly new here and while I have given out points, I'm reluctant to downrate anyone. When do you, personally, downrate someone? I assume for not answering the question would be a fair reason to take points away, but not for an answer we disagree with?

I understand down rating when someone give a nonsense answer or asks a non-sense or offensive question. But, why would you downrate me for adding my congratulations for another AB'ers accomplishments?

Should AB concider removing the negative points button. I never downrate anyone I don't see the need if I think it's a dumb answer or question I don't give them point the negative points are being missused about 80% of the time.

Have you ever asked a question that was fun and/or legitimate and had someone go and slam you for it in their answer? If you want to post a link, feel free.

Do you think it spineless for people to downrate your question without leaving an answer for the 'offending' question, I certainly do?
