I am a Baptist too, and gambling is a sin. The reason we belive that is this. All resources we have in life come from God, by His provision for our needs. If He gives us more than we need, as is almost always the case, then we are to use it for His glory. It does not glorify God to demonstrate in public that you are lusting after money, that you are mis-using God given resources and giving them to the Vegas mob, the heathens, or the state lottery comission in hopes of gaining riches by doing nothing. Neither does it glorify God to publicly trust in luck, chance, the card gods or anything besides God to provide for you. The bible teaches that there are basically two honorable ways to get money. You either earn it, or you inherit it. That does not mean hitting the powerball.
