Is it safe to put beach sand in my turtle's tank?

    You betcha! Turtles are EXTREMELY hardy critters!

    You do have to make sure that the sand itself isn't full or dog gifts, glass, ETC (Duh eh?)

    As for the sand itself, I suggest you pick it up as far from the water's edge as you can so that there is less likely to be oil/gas/whatever in it left over from boat traffic.

    Please note however, that when you actually put the sand in to the tank, the water will before VERY cloudy for a few hours as the sand settles back down. It doesn't matter if you put the sand or the water in first, it will still cause a lot of "silt" to float around, so you may want to have somewhere else to put your turtle for a few hours.

    I did this myself in one of my tanks, and not only did it allow the plants better "grounding" in the sand than in pebbles, but I found that it also REALLY helped to keep the stentch down incase you go a little longer than usual to clean your tank.
