This term generally means the act of typing someone's name into the search engine Google in order to see if they are mentioned on any web pages.

There have been reports about employers "Googling" potential employees, and also the slightly unsavoury practice of people "Googling" individuals they have started dating.

It's very easy to do. Simply go to www.google.com and type a person's name into the search box. If you put quotes around the name (ie. "John Smith") you will get a more accurate result. You may have to scroll through many search results before you find the individual you are searching for. Generally the most frequent results are for people who have a presence on their corporate web site, particularly if they work for a large company with a strong web presence. And of course for some people you won't find anything.

    Happy Googling!

    • Great answer. I'll add that using the state they live in helps. ("John Smith" AND "Kansas")
