    1) Reverse the policies of the 1970's and 80's which ceased to fund hospitialization and medication for the destitute mentally ill. This put hundreds if not thousands onto the streets without their meds where they were either killed by the conditions found there or became hopeless addicts.

    2) There needs to be a constitutional right to shelter for all US citizens with safe drop-in centers and safe permanent housing with free, red-tape-less treatment for drug/alcohol/mental health issues. The red tape alone in the current system makes it hard for a person who is NOT hallucinating their head off to obtain vital assistance. Right not it is endless waiting in lines and paperwork. You have to be very patient and above all literate to be able to cope.

    3) An attitude change towards the poor from the middle class and the wealthy. No society is truly free unless the least of its citizens is afforded basic dignities of human life. Food and a place to sleep at night. Medical care. Training and job placement. The number of homeless children and families in the USA is an atrocity for a country wealthy enough to wage war in a far off land for nebulous reasons.
