Generally speaking, the one key disadvantage of oil based lubricants is that the oil will eat away at the chemical structure of the latex in the condom or diaphragm being used. This can render the condom or diaphragm next to useless. However, some can provide greater ease than water based ones, and have been known to temporarily reduce a man's sensitivity.
