    • I'm just now seeing your answer. So sorry for the delay in giving you a response! What a great list. Have to comment on a few too. lol
1930s: it's pretty amazing to me to even have "classics" from the 1930s that have held up and yet look at some of those titles! Only problem I see is that your favorite "Triumph of the Will" is one I haven't seen! Thanks for the tip.
1940s: I love "The Maltese Falcon" and since I like the television series "Beauty and the Beast" (1988-1991) so much, decided to rent the French film. All b/w as you know. It was fabulous!
1950s: Cracked me up to see "Some Like It Hot". Hadn't thought of that film in a good long while. lol "Suddenly Last Summer" is a good one too.
Well - truth be told - I like a LOT of old films, but this is a great list. Thanks for taking the time to make and share it, debsmooth! :)

    • Aw thanks. It was fun to do. Isn't Cocteau amazing? What a stunning and moody film. Loved it. Trimph of The Will is a bit harder to enjoy. It's such spectacular photography/tchnique. It represents political propaganda raised to the level of art. Unfortunately it was propaganda for Hitler and Nazi Germany but it set a standard. The techniques used in it were much copied afterwards. Noticibly absent from the film are the ethnic cleansing ideas. Good article at wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_of_the_Will

If you have not seen The Great Dictator it's a wonderful counterpoint to Triumph Of The Will.

Now I want to rent Suddenly Last Summer. I'm in such a Tennesse Williams mood lately.
