I don't think being an organ donor gets you any tangible benefits, but it alerts the EMTs and the hospital - should you be in a serious accident - to harvest your organs immediately for possible re-use.
This is more expedient than waiting around hours and hours until the next of kin make such a decision and sign the proper forms, by which time the organs could be rendered useless.
