Help answer this question below.

94 mercury sable cranks won't start, inject some carb cleaner and starts immediately, check engine light comes on , rough idle with some light black smoke, engine has no power but clears up and runs fine after driving several miles

    it sounds like water or trash in the gas, change the fuel filter, add 2 bottles of rubbing alcohol(yes the $1.19 bottles from wal mart)to a tank of fresh gas that will dissipate any water in the gas.
