Just my opinion here, but... I play a lot of golf and spend a lot of time with golfers.

Although a colored golf ball might seem to be a good idea to the beginning golfer, virtually no golfer who pursues the game plays with colored balls. And the better player a person is, the less chance that he'd use a colored ball. Therefore, ball manufacturers know that the people that spend money on golf are not going to be buying colored balls so they don't make many of them; and they don't produce high-end balls that are colored.

There is a market for colored balls that makes sense though. And that is in range balls. Quite often colored balls are used for the driving range to help players quickly identify which are range balls and which are not. Two reasons for that: 1) When a range is close to a fairway on a course the players can more easily identify their own ball if it goes into the range area or range balls leak into the fairway; and 2) Range balls are a lot less appealing to golfers to "borrow" and use if they are bright yellow or orange.
