As I stated in my answer http://www.answerbag.com/c_view.php/2027#q_9860

The Queen and any male in DIRECT line for the throne can not be forced to appear before a court.

HRH Princess Anne was not required to appear before court, but chose to so that the Royal Family would not have to face further bad press. It was a similar situation that saw Her Majesty appear as well.

As I stated before, all legal power stem from the Crown. The person holding the Crown or someone reasonably expected to hold the Crown in the future can not have these powers used against them.

Think about it. What sense would it make for HRH The Prince of Wales to appear before a *Crown* Barrister to defend himself, when he will hold the Crown himself one day?

All of this is *LEGALLY* covered in the Acts of Seccesion and Letters Patten through out MANY different edicts of the Crown.

And, again, as I stated before, if HM or a male member in line were to commit a SERIOUS crime such as murder, you can BET that not only would that member of the Royal Family wave their immunity rights, but also that the House of Commons and the House of Lords would create an act to deal with it, and (likely) ask the Chancellors of State to sign the Bill instead of the Queen herself.

*I *NEVER* said all members of the family are! READ answers a little more closely!

    • Not all members of the Royal Family are immune - bets, gambles and rumour doesn't define British law as it stands.

    • Good answer! But, you misspelled "Patent." Good job!
