Can we enjoy peace, stability and a sustainable planet while maintaining materialistic consumption and comforts?

    No.

    In American culture (the largest consumer) the idea is to throw something away when it is no longer viable and buy something new. Advertising and class envy have us believing we are somehow not whole without the newest,coolest thing. The answer is not that one doesn't need the new thing, and that one should consume less and/ or (gasp) live without some creature comfort, but that they should recycle. I think it is a load of crap. Don't get me wrong, recycling is good, but consuming less and recycling is best. And buy used stuff! HEAL THE WORLD: GO TO YARD SALES! :-)

    • ...yard sales, and thrift shops, and repair shops. And even then, only if you need something that you don't have.
