It's becoming a little better understood that there were fighting skills taught in medieval Europe, not just in the Far East. These don't have specific and exotic names except well-known terms like "fencing" and "wrestling." However those names evoke images of sporting contests, not the real combat systems they used to be.

There is a huge volume of literature that was written centuries ago by the masters who taught knights and gentlemen to survive and win in battle. It was as effective as the Asian arts, and in many ways very similar. It's still being researched and translated (and interpreted) today. Here is a site to check out:
    http://thearma.org/.
    Enjoy.

    • I've been studying German Longsword and Italian Rapier for a while now, and I'm finding those systems to be wonderfully efficient and potent. I'd also like to learn more Sword & Buckler combat, since I'm just beginning in that. Many of my friends practice European sword arts after years of Asian fighting arts, and find the change refreshing and enlightening. Also worth checking out is www.aemma.org and swordforum.com.
