You have no idea WHO gave you the DR (downrate), so don't assume it's the person who asked the question.

AB has a number of trolls and those who DR for fun and to antagonize people. They care NOTHING about whether the answer is valid, correct, good, etc. These are trying to get a reaction, such as this question, out of someone. (Worked, this time, huh?)

AND, there are those who want THEIR answer to be #1 on as many questions as possible, in the belief that it will be enough to put them on the Leaderboard in a higher slot. Problem is, some don't realize that it LOWERS their "+ ratings given", on their profile page, in their stat box.

NONE of them seem to realize that rating CAN be tracked by the AB Staff. For example, if you get a whole bunch of DRs, the staff can see WHO did it. If they were all by the same person, and put them into the penalty box for excessive DRing. And MOST people think that if a person's "+ ratings given" is below 85% or so, they are a troll (that's a BAD thing).

Try not to let it get to you. They don't do anything to your total points - It will NOT stop you or slow you from gaining levels, if that's your intention. They DO affect your answer percentage, though.

Some of us, me included, simply put a comment to the DRer, like "DRer... Explain what is wrong with this answer." It helps us (well, me anyway) release any anger about it, and points out to those who follow that there was a DR on the question. There are those of us who HATE DRers, and will "posi-troll" the answer and/or you.

Just try to ignore them (some will turn off ratings on their feedback page, so they never know they've gotten them), be helpful and/or funny, and have fun. ;-)

    • Yeah...positrollers rock! :)
      Good explanation, as usual.

    • My word, but that was a great answer! Thank you very much BigDaddyBS. Though, what is a posi troll? Anyway, I gave what I thought was a very fair and balanced answer, namely the truth, without being ugly to anyone. See? http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/3201902

I wasn't being unfair to anyone. I simply spoke a truth that many are afraid to say.

    • Posi-trolls tend to undo the negative damage caused by trolls. They give out plusses (especially if they agree with the answer, and sometimes, even if they don't) to ANYONE DRed. They hit all answers on a question, or sometimes, a whole batch of questions or answers by a given user, to make up for being trolled.

    • Two "great answers" and now it's added to my profile's AB repository of answers! LOL

    • Holy Crap! I've been doing that too! I hate to see injustices. It's nice to be able to fix at least a few of them. I didn't know I was a posi troll, but I will wear it like a badge, dammit. Thank you!

    • BigDaddy, that was a great answer. Wow, I found ABLand while googling something, and joined because I thought it was cool to have access to so much info (altho, some of it is just gooberyglob). Had no idea about trolls and the like.

    • Thanks... You should probably also know that there are quite a number out here that may have DRed when we started, but realized it doesn't really do anything but piss people off. I, for one, won't DR anything. If anything, I will UPRATE everyone else, leaving the answer I want DRed alone, effectively DRing it, but not really... Keeps increasing my "+ratings given". (Yeah... I know it's 100%, but as I said, I DRed early on. It's really just over 99.51% and up, though by now, it should be 99.99% LOL)

    • Yes, I did DR a few on my first day or two, (and I'm truly remorseful) because someone kept DRing my pro-Obama answers! Then I started reading all the comments about it and realized, 'oh, we're not SUPPOSED to do that'! So, where can I read about the 'rules' of AB Land?

    • There's a lot of them in my profile. Click my avatar/name and then Control-F to find "Answerbag Questions & Answers". (There are some in my other categories, but those are the most important, far as I'm concerned.
