My xbox controller frequently says it is unplugged and i have to press a before continuing play. Can this be fixed?

  I have a faulty original Xbox controller, and in certain positions, it will be connected. But as soon as i move it out of those positions, or stop pushing on the wire outlet on the controller, the controller disconnects. What can I do about it?
