Actually, concidering the fact that the south had to abide by after the war, it did free the slaves, eventually, in the south as well. So, you are incorrect.

No, I think you misunderstood me...The emancipation proclamation did not free all salves...only those in the state that seceeded from the union.

CoachMJ is correct, they still had slavery in northern states during the civil war. New York and Ohio had many slaves, and they recently uncovered a slave graveyard in New York while starting construction on a building. Also, many free blacks were kidnapped in Northern states and made slaves and bought to the south, the local law enforcement turned a blind eye to the practice
