You can't, and you shouldn't. Forcing them to eat faster by threat of punishment or reward is bad parenting.

Research study after research study shows that the slower we eat our meals, the healthier we are. Eating slowly promotes thorough chewing which aids digestion, and also lets us get signals from our bodies when we are full.

Americans partly are fat because we eat huge portions far too fast and get overly full, distend our stomachs and create a cycle of endless overeating.

    • I have 5 step children with my spouse. The oldest child is seven and has spent most of the last 4 years with her mother. She has gotten use to eating McDonalds and other fast food restaurants and doesnt like the meals we prepare at home. Its summer break and at the begining would beg to eat out, which is something we rarely do or can afford. I have a 4 yr old son and they are givin the same amount of food, which is appropriate for his age. what takes him 15 to 20 min (depending on the distraction) takes her a full hour without her plate being completely empty. We don't eat excessively or unhealthy. We have fruit and vegitables for snacks. But the only thing she'll eat without complaint is grapes. IT aggrivates me and i don't know what to do. And the mother wants US to fix this problem! I would like some valid advice. I've looked and can't find a solution.
