My ipod nano is broken and out of warranty, what can be done to fix it?

I have an iPod nano 3rd generation and it keeps turning off on me. As soon as i disconnect it from the power source(pc/electric plug) it turns off and won't turn back on. what can i do to fix it?

My apple ipod nano has just stopped working. I cannot access any songs. The screen will light up for a few seconds - but it's blank and then switches off. Have I lost everything?
